Match all three identities
The salesperson, licensed qualifier and contracting business may not have the same name. The DBPR explains that each construction business must be qualified by a properly licensed individual. Your contract should identify the business taking responsibility for the work.
Check the scope, not only the word licensed
Florida recognizes different pool-related license categories. Confirm that the license classification covers new residential pool construction rather than relying on a general statement that someone is licensed.
Save the verification record
Keep a copy or screenshot of the record with the proposal, insurance documents and contract. Recheck it before signing if time has passed.
Verify permits and trades separately
Ask which entity obtains the building permit and which licensed trades handle electrical, plumbing or gas work. The permit jurisdiction can also tell you what registrations or documents it requires.
Questions to ask the builder
- Which business and licensed qualifier will be named in my contract?
- Which permits, drawings, inspections and trade permits are included?
- What work is excluded or carried as an allowance?
- Which documents will I receive at final completion?
